Vintage Charles Letts & Co Household Wants Indicator board c1910 Downton Abbey

  

This "Household Wants Indicator" board is in "as found" condition. It is so evocative of a time long gone and one can be seen in Downton Abbeys kitchens. The indicator acts as a visual reminder to replace home and kitchen items by flipping the little tabs from cream to red. The items run from'Almonds' to'Wines, Cooking' with some interesting items listed in between, it's a great snapshot into the Edwardian kitchen and will look great in a kitchen today.

The board has suffered a little over the years, there are stains underneath the celluloid and a small split to the top. At some point an owner has drilled two holes to the top. The black colour to the lettering is still strong and the small pocket for notes is present. Two of the tabs are missing and there are rust marks to a few of them too.

The tabs and there metal fixing strips have retained much of their red and cream paint, but there are marks and rubbing in places. They do flip over well. One of the hanging rings from the back is missing, but the "Good Housekeeping Institute" is present. It measures 33.5 cm (13 1/4 inches) high and 28.5 cm (11 1/4 inches) across.
